Tricia’s Creations: Gorditas de Azucar Sweet Tortillas

Tricia’s Creations: Gorditas de Azucar Sweet Tortillas :
These sweet warm sugar gorditas make for a great breakfast or snack. The are very much like a flour tortilla but smaller, thicker, and sweet of course.

Make these ahead of time and keep them warm, or place in refrigerator to be warmed up again. Serve them plain and delicious or spread butter, jams, or even nutella over them for a great snack. The are crispy outside and muffin like inside.

Ingredients :
2 cups AP Flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, margarine, or shortening.. softened
1/2 cup milk whole at room temp
1 egg slightly whisked
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt

Instructions :
In a large bowl combine all the dry ingredients first, mix well. To the dry ingredients add the softened butter, margarine, or shortening and use your fingers or fork to break up the butter..etc.. into the flour till well combined. It will look crumby and now you add the wet ingredients, first mix in the milk. Next you will a slightly whisked egg to make sure it combines well. Form this into a dough ball. You can use a wooden spoon then move on to using your hands. If too wet.. add a bit more flour. If too dry.. add a bit more milk..drops at a time.

The dough will be slightly sticky but you should be able to form a dough ball with it. Form 10 to 12 balls about 1″ or 2″ diameter. Press them flat between 2 cutting boards, plates, or use a rolling pin to form abot 4 to 5 inch rounds that are about 1/4 inch thick. On a hot skilet melt some butter or shortening. Place 1 or 2 gorditas on skilet and allow to cook about 2 mins each side. The temp should be about med high heat, Keep eye on your gorditas so they don’t burn. You want them to just toast on the outside, they will be bready inside. Serve warm with butter, jam, or nutella spread if you like. These are delicious alone with some coffee or tea. enjoy!
